why i will be turning down the social invites that come my way.

Arrived on Australian soil this morning, bleary-eyed, bloated & smelling much in need of a shower. Ah basic human dignity, clearly I frown upon you.

Got fetched at the (pearly) gates, & the pa held up a napkin with my name scribbled across it. It was endearing in an entirely oh-lord-look-casually-this-way-so-as-not-to-seem-associated kind of way.

But anyway, this is the part where the title of said blog renders itself true. My package from amazondotcom arrived, & waited dutifully for me, so I introduced it to more friends of its kind I purchased in Manila. The result:

eternal mindf*cks! SQUEEEEEE!

& because I am so inclined, I will list each title & author, starting now:
1) The Bloody Chamber - Angela Carter
2) Survivor - Chuck Palahniuk
3) Rant - Chuck Palahniuk
4) A Pocketbook of Short Stories
5) Sputnik Sweetheart - Haruki Murakami
6) The Unbearable Lightness of Being - Milan Kundera
7) No One Belongs Here More Than You - Miranda July
8) Veronika Decides To Die - Paolo Coelho
9) Eleven Minutes - Paolo Coelho
10) The Alchemist - Paolo Coelho
11) Fight Club - Chuck Palahniuk

Mind you, I've read half of these titles already, but it just so happens that now I OWN THEMMM.

I need shuteye.

  1. wow, you got some serious reading in front of you now. Does book ownership feel good and instill you with a sense of pride and purpose?

sorry, that was mean and sarcastic of me. Unfortunately all the reading in front of me in the near future is going to be of the research variety.

Happy reading Nikki. Good luck with purging l'eau de Philippines from your body.

  3. Hello have you ever read Lovely Bones and The Time Traveller's wife? They are both great books!

  4. looks like some good reading there Nikki. will this inspire you to write ?

btw, are you going to put some of your written work back on the web somehow ? (maybe your own site). always thought it was a shame you took it down, although you obviously had your reasons.

  7. wow, i find it mildly intimidating that we have the exact same taste in fiction. maybe intimidating is not the right word. but it's the one that comes to mind. yeah.

  8. i finished milan kundera's the unbearable lightness of being a few weeks ago! i thought it was sort of amazing, especially since i had only bought the book for its cover.

stranger than fiction is the last book i read, have you read some david sedaris? great sense of ironic humor

  10. Are you still on Australian soil?

  11. Sputnik Sweetheart is the LAST Murakami book I have left to read (okay, I didn't read the gas attack one, but..)- I am scared to reach the end of the list. I mean, what if he dies?? Or what if he just makes a sequel to 'what i talk about when i talk about running'??!! or decides instead to join the circus or.. get really into ceramics!
ps. I'm about to check out The Alchemist- thanks to you!

  12. His name is actually Paulo Coelho. And he's a bloody good writer.
